Mississippi Drivers Education

If you are 14 years old and can provide proof that you have enrolled in a driver’s education course at your school, you are eligible to apply for a Mississippi Learner’s Permit. If you have not registered in a driver’s education course you may apply for a Learner’s Permit at age 15. Other requirements include a complete notarized application (with both parent’s signatures), your social security card, your certified birth certificate, and proof (dated within 30 days) that you are attending school. In addition, you must pass a written test as well as an eye test.

Once you have held your learners permit for six months, you can apply for an Intermediate Drivers License or a Class “R” Drivers License (if you are under 18 but over 15 ½) which allows you to drive unsupervised between 6am and 10pm, though you may drive from 10pm to 6am if you are accompanied by a licensed driver who is over the age of 21 and occupying the seat beside you. Additional driving skills tests and vision tests are also required, as are the parental consent form and the school attendance form.
